As we reflect on the impactful journey of empowering local SMMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs, the SMME training, organized by AlexBiz in collaboration with AlexFM and The National Gambling Board, unfolded over five days of skill-building and knowledge-sharing. Facilitated by Rick Ed and Xoliswa Moraka, the training brought together 14 enthusiastic participants at the Bokamoso Youth Centre.
Day 1: Getting Your Business Funding Ready
The training commenced with a focus on preparing businesses for funding opportunities. Participants engaged in discussions on various funding options, complemented by practical exercises. Opening remarks from board members set a positive tone.
Day 2: Making Your Business More Profitable
Day two explored strategies for enhancing business profitability through workshops, interactive sessions, and the distribution of branded materials.
Day 3: Venture Building Plan
The third day centred on crafting comprehensive venture-building plans, enriched by group activities and insights from Xoliswa Moraka. Attendees were awarded Entrepreneurial Guidebooks, further enriching their learning experience.
Day 4: Knowing How Much to Charge for Services
Day four focused on pricing strategies, with practical exercises and discussions on market analysis. The day continued the trend of successful networking.
Day 5: Using Tech to Make Your Business More Organised
The final day explored technology integration for increased business efficiency. Practical demonstrations and hands-on training concluded the program, culminating in closing remarks from the board chairperson. Participants received branded gifts as a token of completion and 5 Day attendance certificates.
Conclusion
The success of the SMME training is evident not only in the knowledge gained but also in the sense of community fostered among participants. The closing remarks were delivered by board members, emphasizing the importance of the training. The engagement of Moving Feast Catering for lunch provided a delightful and communal experience throughout the program.
The training garnered significant interest, resulting in limited space and a waiting list for interested participants. Given this overwhelming demand, it is recommended and ideal to consider organising similar training sessions in the future to accommodate the growing interest.
In reflection, Shaun Maake (one of the participants) aptly captures the transformative essence of our program:
"Changed the way I think and do business, learned a lot of things at a business's perspective, and lastly showed me how to grow, most of all how to make money without losing.... 'Let's meet in business'!"
We extend our gratitude to all contributors and eagerly anticipate the positive impact of this training on the participating SMMEs and entrepreneurs.
